“I bought this album as a fredshman in college and have loved it ever since.
After singing many of the songs through the years, two daughters eventually came along and “”Wonderful Baby”” was their lullaby. Now they plan on singing it to their children!
“”The Legend of Andrew McCrew”” is a wonderful story-song ala Dylan's “”Tangled up in Blue”” (but not quite so blue!)
I find myself singing “”Great Big Man”” in the shower all the time.
In my opinion, “”Homeless Brother”” is the third of three terrific albums in a row from Don (following “”Don McLean”” and “”Playin' Favorites””).
It's a tough CD to find but it IS available. Get it!

“this album is one of his best, the title track, you have lived and winter has me in its grip are amasin'. Wondeful Baby is the best known track on here but the rest of the album is far superior, a must for fans!! (Rated 5 out of 5)”
“If you ever thought of picking up a guitar and writing a song..you should listen to don mclean first…you may put them down again…Tangled like a spider in her hair…i mean, who but McLean could write this stuff..if talent alone were enough bring fame…this guy would be king…better than any singer/songwriter you could think of with the possible exception of Tom Waits and Nick Drake. “Definitley one of my favorite albums. A masterpiece of the American experience. It gives as wide a range of emotions as Simon and Garfunkels's “”Bookends””. You can laugh, smile, and then cry, all in a little over a half an hour. It also, incidentally, is great music to juggle to. (Rated 5 out of 5)”
“I lost this album many years ago, and still remember most of the tracks. Does anyone know the song that starts;”” I went down to the sea and I met this lonely man””. (Rated 5 out of 5)”
“Everytime I hear “”Homeless brother”” I could cry … but it stills feels good! (Rated 5 out of 5)”
“Homeless Brother is my all time favorites, every song in it…. (Rated 5 out of 5)”
I bought this many years back in response to Don's Top Hits. It was different and very distinctive. The album got snagged by a friend but the melodies and words linger in my mind and in my singing. Gotta get it again. It talks the homeless condition in a special way and brings interesting dimension to a different way of living. (Rated 5 out of 5)
my favourite don mclean album. The production by Joel Dorn is just perfect. Beautifully written songs. (Rated 5 out of 5)

A musician at his peak; a poet touching the ground with his feet and the ethereal with his soul. The perfect concept album for all time. (Rated 5 out of 5)
Don's finest album (Rated 5 out of 5)
Magical album that only gets better with the passing of time. My personal fave from the Don Juan of folk singers! (Rated 5 out of 5)
“Eleven stars for titletrack .. and the rest of the album is really good, either! 🙂 (Rated 5 out of 5)”
“Absolutely one of his finest, if not best-known. Splendid story-telling, his voice is in true McLean form.
Andrew McCrew is actually based on a true story.
Some ballads, some terrific driving music and some excellent rock round it out! (Rated 5 out of 5)”
“It took me awhile to get into his one, but now that I have, I really enjoy it. I love the flute on “”Winter Has Me In It's Grip””. A classic (Rated 4 out of 5)”
“I used to play “”Winter Has Me in its Grip”” on the radio. Simply good music. (Rated 4 out of 5)”

Can anyone identify the vocal group that sings behind Don on “Crying in the Chapel”
Probably been answered now but Persuasions are credited on the wikipedia page, so would guess it’s them – does anyone know who sings wordless harmony on Homeless Brother?
