Produced by Larry Butler. Released by EMI in 1981. Includes the re-recorded ‘Castles in the Air’ and the highly popular ‘Jerusalem’. The 1997 Hip-o records re-issue of this album includes detailed liner notes written by Don McLean himself. In them he tells us that he re-recorded ‘Castles in the Air’ for this album because “I never liked the original, which at most had been a ‘B’ side for both ‘And I Love You So’ on Mediarts Records and later for ‘Vincent’ on United Artists Records. When this recording was released it went top-40 around the world and it’s now the ‘hit’ version of the song.” CD re-issue on hip-o records in 1997 includes bonus track: ‘Dream Lover’ (studio version).

  • “this is a good album, especially when you consider it was in the 80&#39s. left for dead on the road of love is brilliant! great cover of love hurts. this is a bit of a country crooner album but it is good in a hard to explain sort of way. (Rated 4 out of 5)”

  • “I find this a great album, especially the songs that were composed by Don McLean himself. The new version of “”Castles in the Air”” is much better than the version in TAPESTRY: it is more expressively sung and the lyrics can be clearly heard. “”Isn&#39t It Strange”” is an insightful song. “”Jerusalem”” carries a message of hope and tolerance (alas! when we think of what&#39s happening now!) I particularly like “”Sea Man”” for its haunting quality and its empathy with the old man and concern for the environment through his plight. “”Crazy Eyes””, and “”Left for Dead”” are intoxicating. There is also such a variety of subjects and moods here. Nothing is pallid or boring. (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “The Hip-O! RE-Release of this sounds slightly beter than preivious versions even thogh preivios versions had superb sound quality. the c.d. realease also features linar notes by the man him self and acover of the Boby Darin Clasic,Dream Lover (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “Sea Cruise is my favourite song. I dance to it all the time. Can not get enough. Love it.

  • “This ranks with “”American Pie”” and his self titled album as one of his absolute best. It&#39s a classic. Every song is a winner. (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “Just wonderful – sad and empathic, forseeing an unknown future – what was written then is so appropriate for today also – you are an inspiration… thank you. (Rated 5 out of 5)”
