  • “If you only have one &#39live&#39 Don McLean album…and possibly even if you only have one album full stop, this should be it.

Here is Don in his true troubador days, at the peak of his career…the man his voice, guitar and banjo…no embellishment, none necessary.

You can feel him manipulate the audience…hold them in the palm of his hand…particularly during the singalongs of Babylon and Geordies Lost his Penker. A regular concert favourite by Josh White – Where were you baby? – is also included.

Surrounded by the classics from the first four albums (up to Homeless Brother) the whole package is simply a delight.

  • this is the best Don Mclean album around. the solo version of american pie is unbelivable. its just a classic album. (Rated 5 out of 5)

  • “Incredible. Five millions stars times ten to the power of infinity, bracket infinity cubed!!!! It&#39s perfection on an LP! (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • very few artists could pull off a show like this one–one man and a guitar. if you buy only one of his albusms this is the one to choose (Rated 5 out of 5)

  • “Un de mes meilleurs souvenirs. Autant d&#39intimité avec le public…
Je n&#39ai plus ce disque depuis longtemps. (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • This wonderful set reminds me of the firsttime I saw McLean in concert solo in baltimore in 1980.It was an unbelievable performance.there was a huge outdoor crowd that was completely enthralled by his talent and energy. You know what I&#39m talking about.the albumn records that. • “I saw Don several times during the mid to late 70&#39s and he is the premier solo performer. I used to love watch him switch between banjo and guitar and here his little quips and stories in between. This album, SOlO, allows me to relive all that live energy and you can hear the fans respond accordingly. (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “Great live album, Going to see Don for the first time live in Texas in April.
don&#39s the greatest!!!!! (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “In 1980 a family friend got this album through Don/his management and made a cassette for me.
I wore that out and found the album (scratchy & skippy) at a used record store a couple years ago. At the time, I was happy to even find it but now I&#39m extremely excited that this has been reissued on cd. I never bothered searching the web because I was almost sure it was out of print. Thankfully, now I know better.

The review: What can I say that hasn&#39t been said already? I&#39m not sure why I latched on to this album at the young age of 10……maybe I was attracted to the the storytelling in each song, the silly stories in between, or the on-fire banjo playing.

Except for some clunky editing and maybe a couple songs too many/too long, I rate this a beautifully classic album that I&#39ll soon have the pleasure of listening to in the proper format.

Maybe once it warms up around here I think I&#39ll scare the neighborhood with some “”Muleskinner Blues””. 😉 (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “While I have enjoyed nearly all of Don&#39s work, with out a question Solo is Don&#39s best album. This performance capsulizes Don&#39s tremendous voice strength, musical range, and is filled with pure emotion and energy while ripping through the songs. These qualities of live music magic can never be duplicated in the studio. McLean at his best. (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “songwriting and performance at its best,i have taught and played guitar for 20 yrs you cant get better than this.i was at the manchester gig featured on this album,it really was this good,if you only buy one accoustic album make it this one. (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “I&#39ve only seen this album in vinyl 5 times. I bought it each time for myself the first one I found, and then as gifts for friends that fell in love with my copy. I have it on cd now, but still love the vinyl. Wonderful… (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “My absolute favorite live album by ANY artist, (though &#39An Evening with John Denver&#39 comes close). His rapport and chemistry with his audience is astounding! Am I showing my age!? Hope so!! (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “I saw Don perform in the late seventies two times in Brussels. Amazing how a man and his guitar (and banjo) can capture an audience. This album has it all, the atmosphere, the excellent songs. Great album, great memories… (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “This is a very good album, showing the true calling of Don baring his soul.
I ordered this album about two weeks ago but I haven&#39t received any confirmation (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • “Perfection at the time of its release but now sounding its age, particularly now that Don is performing with a great band of musicians. (Rated 3 out of 5)”

  • “Babylon on this album: Don sets up the three part round with the audience and gets an indescribably awesome performance from them, with his distinct vocal and guitar guiding and blending with them. If you ever have a group of folks over that aren&#39t shy about singing, play this and have them each take a different part as a sing-along. (Rated 5 out of 5)”

  • I wore out three copies of this album and was elated when it came out on CD. I play it every week (Rated 5 out of 5)

  • “This, I believe, is the best McLean concert album. I wonder if there is a video released on this concert? I would love to have a copy. (Rated 5 out of 5)”
