About Me

I am Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) at the University of Reading and Professor of Geography. My career spans over three decades in higher education, combining leadership in quality assurance, teaching, and research.

I have worked extensively with national regulators and agencies, including the Office for Students and the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), and serve on the Royal Geographical Society’s programme accreditation panel.

My teaching focused on energy and water resources, with fieldwork in the UK, Netherlands, Spain, Greece, and China. My recent research, in collaboration with colleagues at the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST), explores sustainable water and environmental management.

Beyond academia, I am the author of the official biography of Don McLean and appeared as his biographer in the BBC Two Classic Albums documentary on American Pie.
